Defusing is used increasingly in crisis management regarding groups of staff that hasexperienced mentally stressful situations. The purpose of the defusing is an early disposal of stress for people who have gone through a painful experience. It gives a
possibility for relief for participants and to maintain their image and perception of what
occurred. It helps to prevent and mitigate negative reactions. Everybody involved have access to the same information simultaneously. During a defusing it will also be assessed if theremight be a need for further action, such as a debriefing (psychological examination). Defusing puts its emphasis on examination of the facts and a possibility of spontaneous expression of feelings and emotions.
